The Problem

A Pasadena homeowner with a large family contacted 24/7 Rooter Service after constantly running out of hot water with their 50-gallon tank heater. The unit was also 13 years old and approaching end of life. They wanted to upgrade to a tankless system for endless hot water.

What We Found

The existing 50-gallon atmospheric vent unit needed to be replaced with a direct-vent condensing tankless unit. The gas line needed to be upsized from 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch to supply the higher BTU demand of the tankless unit. The venting needed to be converted from B-vent to PVC concentric direct vent.

What We Did

We upsized the gas line, converted the venting, installed a Navien NPE-240A2 condensing tankless unit, installed an expansion tank, connected all water and gas lines, and commissioned the unit. We pulled the Pasadena building permit and coordinated the inspection.

Result

Endless hot water for the full family. Old 50-gallon tank removed freeing up significant garage space. Permit passed first inspection. Homeowner qualified for LADWP and SoCalGas rebates on the high-efficiency condensing unit.
