The Project

A Studio City homeowner was building an outdoor kitchen on their backyard patio and needed a dedicated gas line run from the existing meter at the side of the house approximately 55 feet to the new kitchen island location. The project included a built-in BBQ grill, side burner, and patio heater connection. The line needed to be correctly sized for all three appliances running simultaneously and required a permit from the City of Los Angeles.

What We Did

We calculated the BTU load for all three appliances to properly size the gas line. We trenched and ran a new 3/4-inch black iron gas line from the meter, through the side yard, and to the outdoor kitchen location. We installed a dedicated shutoff valve at the meter, intermediate shutoffs at each appliance connection, and a main shutoff at the kitchen island for convenience and safety. We pulled the required permit from the City of Los Angeles, completed the installation to code, and coordinated the required inspection. SoCalGas was called to restore gas service after the inspection was passed.

Result

The outdoor kitchen gas system passed city inspection on the first visit. All three appliances were tested and confirmed operational at correct pressure. The homeowner received the permit sign-off documentation for their records. The full project was completed in one day including trenching, installation, permit inspection, and service restoration.
