The Problem

What We Found
We used professional gas leak detection equipment to locate the source. The leak was at a corroded union fitting on the gas line running to the water heater in the garage — original galvanized gas piping from the 1950s had corroded at the threaded connection.
What We Did
We replaced the corroded union fitting and the adjacent section of aging galvanized gas pipe with new black iron pipe and fittings. We pressure tested the full gas system at 1.5 times operating pressure for 15 minutes to confirm zero leaks throughout, then called SoCalGas to restore service and witness the final test.
Result
Gas leak repaired and full system pressure tested. SoCalGas restored gas service the same day. All appliances tested operational. Homeowner advised on the age of remaining galvanized gas piping and scheduled a full gas repipe for later in the year.
